Exploring Artistic Ideas: Joint Work in Progress with Friend from Melbourne

My creative friend Helen and I had a great time playing with collage images when she came up from Melbourne. We had bounced around artistic ideas. Helen has a natural talent for composition plus a really imaginative approach to collage. Here’s a joint work in progress.

The three shapes, based on termite mounds represent fire, flood and famine. I photographed a smoldering, natural grass fire burning in the wooded grasslands in the Northern Territory in and area where there are giant termite mounds.

The mounds transformed into symbols of wood, stone and water in the painting. Then Helen and I brainstormed the representative imagery to tell the story of fire, flood and famine.

Our art piece is still very fluid; we haven’t glued anything down yet so there’s room for all sorts of possibilies to emerge.
