Pop up Exhibition Art Sales

I sold three paintings at the pop-up exhibition at the Butter Factory Arts Centre, Cooroy, a wonderful culmination of my three week Artist in Residency. There is always something special for a person that draws them to a particular work. I feel it when I talk to them.

What makes these works special for me is that they all capture the essence of Marcus Beach where I live and walk the dog. Because I personally deliver my paintings when possible, I am lucky to see their new homes. One painting graces a meditation area, another a bedroom in a new home in Brisbane, and the third went to a beautiful home in Noosa filled with fine art and stunning ceramic pieces.

However, the main purpose of the residency was not to sell paintings, but to start conversations, since the actual project embraced empherality, hence the story board format. Throughout the three weeks, gallery visitors participated in conversations about art, memory making, photography and how they honour their lost loved ones. Some even decided to do their own memorials.

Even though the Kia Sulc Studio is a work space, I decorated it to feel homely. I grew up in a home with art on every wall, both original works, and the prints of artists Mum loved – Cezanne, Picasso, Utrillo. Placing the my works around the walls seemed a fitting tribute to Mum too.
