The light shifts in the Inner Hebrides

My artist’s eye marvels at how the light constantly shifts across the tableau in the the Lochs of the Inner Hebrides. A plein-air painter’s nightmare, the effect of light on the sea and the landscape can change in the instance of a shutter click, making it even challenging for photographers, especially when on board a rocking boat.

Here’s an example of what I mean in two photos taken on the first day on board. I had to wait the for a moment of sunshine to capture of this beautiful sailing ship in good light.
